High Country Press

I have worked as a journalist for the news organization High Country Press since May 2020.

 

High Country Press was established 05-05-05 by the Publisher and Editor Ken Ketchie along with the help of many writers, editors, designers, sales and support staff. On Feb. 29, 2012, the newspaper made the transition to the World Wide Web. High Country Press's “webpaper” serves Watauga and Avery counties of Northwestern North Carolina. The publication is based in Boone, focusing on news, community information and events in Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk and other surrounding areas of the High Country. High Country Press Publications also publishes the High Country Magazine six times a year and a Visitor Guide for the summer, fall and winter seasons.

Being a staff writer for High Country Press has allowed me to complete the following tasks:

​

• Report and write articles for a news organization that uses a webpaper to reach online media consumers in Watauga, Avery and the surrounding counties of Northwestern North Carolina, increasing news coverage on events, businesses, and individuals for the local community that has a population of approximately 56,177 people in addition to seasonal visitors

• Interview, transcribe, research, write and publish print stories in the monthly High Country Magazine while also compiling requested information for other publications like the High Country Press Visitor Guide

 

• Publish stories, press releases, and pictures on the company’s WordPress website along with promoting content on its Facebook page daily

 

• Use Adobe InDesign to create graphics for local businesses that purchased advertisements​
